Co-creating Housing Solutions:

Enacting Opportunities for Individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

An innovative approach is urgently needed to address housing instability among youth with FASD

By increasing access to an FASD-informed, strengths-based housing framework, our goal is to provide housing supports for people with FASD across their lifetime.

FASD Action Research Housing Pilot

The FASD Action Research Housing Pilot Project seeks to provide opportunities for you to collaborate with CanFASD to discover and try new ways to improve services for individuals with FASD. The Pilot Project will involve developing specific training tools based on your needs, perspectives, and other resources such as the Harmonizing Framework for Housing Individuals with FASD.

CHOoSE is a CMHC Solutions Lab

Solutions Labs are also called social innovation labs, design labs, or change labs. They’re an innovative approach to tackling complex societal challenges that require systems change.

Interested in getting involved?

We are currently in the engagement phase of the project. That means we’re going out and talking to people to see how we can address their needs. If you have lived experience of FASD, are a caregiver for someone with FASD, or work in a related sector, we want to hear from you! The more people we hear from, the better our understanding of what solutions would help people with FASD and their caregivers.

Explore engagement tools

Offering effective services requires building understanding with clients to make sure your services meet their needs. Human-centred Design (HCD) provides tools and methods for connecting with clients to better understand their perspective and incorporate their feedback. People living with FASD deserve to have a say in what type of services are available and also how those services work. Explore the Service Provider Human-centred Design Toolkit to find ways of engaging with clients to make sure you incorporate the voices of people with lived experience.

What we’ve learned so far…

We wanted to know how we could create solutions for individuals with FASD and the service providers that serve them —so we asked them. We talked to more than 40 individuals with FASD, caregivers, and service provider to learn about their experiences, goals, and needs. Each interview provided meaningful data that we transformed into insights to inform the rest of the project.

Find out what we learned from our first round of engagement insights and the ideas that these insights sparked:
